South Sudan is a new nation, which gained independence in 2011, after a 20 year civil war between North and South in Sudan.
Many people were forced to take refuge in neighbouring countries, especially Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda.
In December, 2013, civil war broke out in South Sudan itself, and more refugees crossed the borders.
A peace agreement was signed around 25 August, 2015, but is widely believed to be fragile.
